blog #8
I know I missed a few, but I didn't want to bore you (no promises). I have really enjoyed living on my own! Yes, I had the odd fall, but I managed them well, met the nice neighbor's and I was Ok. I have progressed nicely. Even though most people don't have a team to keep them going, but the size of it has diminished. I'm now showering on my own, doing all the cooking, I stand and do all the dishes. I get around by taking the Handy Dart (Ok I've nick named it The not so Handy Dart!) Especially on Wed evening, I was going to physio, I was locking my door, heard the phone ring, returned to answer it and heard the driver on the machine, - he left. So after waiting 20 mins on hold and 1 hour for another bus. The next one parked in a mud puddle (oh ya it was greening the trees, so I got soaked.) because my power chair augured in and I was as green as any tree in BC's rain forest ok soaked to boot. But I made it and really enjoyed the hot shower afterward! aahh!
I passed taking the handicapped regular buses and I took the sky train. Ok, you don't think that is a big deal, but backing up while doing a parallel park and all the school age kids playing and laughing on their way home from private school, is a big deal!
I got treated like the princess that I am when Pat, Ann and Cathy came Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed. Well I sure ate like a princess and I drank glue-vine at the Christmas Fair. I have the mugs to prove it.
The good news is that they hooked me up with a guy who I encouraged up here. Ok he had his then GF or mother of his daughter, Norah now 8, which was his encouragement but I remember skiing some fine runs with him on the backside of Whistler (that was then, this is now) but tomorrow he is going to assist me while I attend my first HOT yoga class at his studio, it is not the back side but it will be a big challenge, and a good one!
Well since I moved into this apt at the beginning of Sept I was always told that the apt is under GF Strong's management and it is only for 6 months which ends at the end of Feb. So, ever since I moved in, I have been looking for something this good but under a bridge is starting to look not too bad! The good news is that I like living on my own and I do ok so finding something like this suits me fine. I like the False Creek Area or this area as it is central to transportation, biking trails or walking (when and if I can do it), banks, grocery stores, Starbucks or other good coffee hang outs. I'm predominantly looking for places that are priced according to your income (either BC Housing or co-ops) it is a challenge in a high priced city but now I am disadvantaged and old. I would look outside the city but my physiotherapists are pretty skilled and any help getting to recover, I'll take.
Ok I did the yoga and for the first time since the accident on Mon and I'm booked to keep trying it. Sue and I went back to the pool today, for the first time in a long time. I could really see my improvement, but I'm still not actually swimming but it was fun and i could see and feel my improvement.
Unfortunately my uncle Mike Lalor died this week. He had been pretty sick and at his age there wasn't an upside to dragging it on. But the good news is that a cousin of mine sent an email and I finally put 2+2 together and finally realized we were all family. Not me and him and me and her but all of us. Ok I'm a little slow but sad things are sometimes what is needed to bring the gang together.
I am on this difficult journey but I have tons of really good support! Great friends and family and a great team of professionals so I hope to keep blossoming, as I'm sure there is something deep and more meaningful for me to learn. So if you have a question or comment for me, my email is; peggylalor@gmail.com and I'll do my best to get back to you. Until next time, Be well!
